LAURA POWER, MS, PhD, LDN

EXPERIENCE

Laura Power is a nutritional biochemist with 18 years experience in clinical nutrition and 28 years experience in

researching food allergies and endocrine patterns.  She provides nutritional evaluation and therapy for both

adults and children.  She has extensive experience with adult conditions, including:  nutrient deficiencies,

maldigestion, food allergies, chronic fatigue syndrome, neurological and mood problems, diabetes, cardiac risk

assessment, menopause and anti-aging.  She has 15 years experience in developmental delays in children,

including all the autism spectrum disorders and sub-types, and ADD, ADHD, and Down's syndrome.  She does

not treat cancer nor do sports nutrition or geriatric nutrition.

EDUCATION

Dr. Power holds a Masters of Science Degree in Nutritional Sciences (Nutritional Biochemistry) from the

University of Maryland, where she pioneered new research in food allergies.  She holds a Doctor of Nutrition

Degree in Clinical Nutrition from International University in California.  She has also studied Immunology,

Allergy, Epidemiology, and Seasonal Affective Disorder at the National Institutes of Health graduate school,

FAES (Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences).  In addition, she has attended three extensive

training conferences with the Autism Research Institute.  Her Bachelor of Arts Degree is from the University of

Southern California in Comparative Literature.

LICENSING & CERTIFICATION

Dr. Power is a Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist in Maryland.  She qualifies as a "Nutritionist" under the Title Law

in Virginia, and has been active in licensing legislation in Virginia, where there is not yet a license.  She is also

a "Registered Clinician" with the Autism Research Institute.

Dr. Power is a member of the following professional organizations: Virginia Nutritionists Association (founding

member and President), Maryland Nutritionists Association (founding member and Secretary), American

College of Nutrition, Developmental Delay Resources, and the Autism Research Institute.

NICOLE CHENG, B.S.

Nicole is our office manager, and works on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  She comes to us with a Bachelors of

Science in Business Administration and a background in computer science.   However, she is also

knowledgeable about gluten-free and casein-free diets, food allergies, supplements, and developmental

delays.  She has attended three Autism Research Institute conferences (DAN!), and is the mother of an autistic

child.  She is available and qualified to answer your questions about the Clinic and our practice.  She

schedules office visits, and is in charge of supplement orders, the Shopping Cart, and UPS shipping -- and

some bookkeeping.
